Position Objective

The Application Administrator is responsible for making available applications and systems which provide the required functionality for the delivery of All Covered services to our clients. This includes the maintenance, efficiencies, and overall effectiveness of custom applications as well as the customization of products from software vendors.  The Application Administrator is an authoritative subject matter expert on the application(s) they manage, providing technical reviews, striving for system improvements, and provide proactive analyses on data and information to better service our clients.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provide “Level 4” assistance to Service Operations and other business units in supporting various applications, including controls, processes, and practices within the enterprise and across all facets of infrastructure.
  • Provide feedback and assist in reviewing, creating or documenting standard operating procedures, recommendations, project specific documents and resource guides as needed
  • Assist in constructing policies and standards that impact infrastructure operations and services but also improve overall service delivery.
  • Understand various product interfaces and API’s across systems and tools
  • Have the ability to drive and lead an overall project as an individual contributor and/or as part of a large, medium and/or small team
  • Perform in proposal efforts and assists in sales activities
  • Provide Service Transition assistance as directed
  • Manage Incidents, Service Requests, Projects within an ITSM, adhering to established SLOs and/or SLAs
  • Own and modify as appropriate system configuration settings; set best practices and maintenance regime for assigned systems based on requirements, software/vendor recommendations, experience, and business needs.
  • Work with teams or vendors to ensure the efficient operation of production systems including database, application and web servers, including but not limited to application availability and performance.
  • Using scripts and other tools, establish automation and system improvements
  • Troubleshoot and perform Root Cause Analysis of software and hardware issues.
  • Responsible for 24x7 on-call problem resolution for production and office environments in areas of system expertise, and authority to escalate as necessary.

  • Document findings, including new defects in products and work with various teams to create knowledgebase articles or SOPs.
  • Training service delivery organizations for multi-tiered support

Communication Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Communicate current status of issues to the manager as necessary, based on severity and impact of the issue on the business.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with business representatives in explaining impacts and strategies and where necessary, in layman's terms.
Experience, Educational Reqts and Certifications
  • 6+ years’ experience in supporting customer-facing production systems with high availability in a large, mission-critical environment with a background in the following:
    • Proven Experience with computer applications including setup, maintenance & troubleshooting along with working experience with enterprise-wide deployment solutions
    • Experience working with the following list of platforms and associated integration and transformation techniques:
      • Storage and related storage systems and distributed infrastructure 
      • Enterprise compute and related platforms
      • Service Management and related best practices for ITIL
      • Network and related network enterprise network capabilities 
      • Familiarity with public and private cloud architectures and migration techniques
      • Understanding of desktop and mobile solutions across the enterprise
      • Experience working with business principles, practices and economics
    • Experience working with common best practices, innovations, trends and challenges in the industry
    • Ability to anticipate problems and take decisive action, giving regard to the impact on both the client and the company
    • Solid understanding of Exchange, Active Directory, Windows Group Policies, and Windows OS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business Management, or Technology related fields a major plus
  • Must be willing to be on-call both on and off hours for systems and service escalations
  • Service Management or ITIL certifications are a plus
  • At least one of the following industry certifications are required:
    • MCTS/MCP Server 2008 or above
    • MCTS/MCP Exchange 2007 or above
    • CompTIA Server+
    • Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA)
    • Apple Certified Technical Coordinator (ACTC)
  • Memberships and participation in relevant professional associations.
