Job Title:  Sr. Benefits Specialist

Position Objective

The Sr. Benefits Specialist reports to the Benefits Manager and will be responsible for day-to-day administration and compliance of the company health and welfare and qualified retirement plans.  This position will also assist with the annual evaluation, design and implementation of plans/programs.

Essential Job Functions
  • Manage Annual Benefits Open Enrollment: define system requirements, work with vendor on changes and testing, develop employee communications, and conduct employee meetings
  • Vendor Management: preparation of monthly premium billing, research administrative and work flow challenges and propose solutions to ensure continuous process improvement
  • Assist with benefits team projects to include implementation & redesign of plans; development of employee communications; evaluation, planning & administration of all the company’s benefit plans and programs
  • Preparation and distribution of mandated health notices and annual mandated filings
  • Manage ACA compliance and prepare employee records for distribution of annual 1095s
  • Manage Wellness Incentive communications and quarterly payments
  • Responsible for 401(k) plan administration, including but not limited to; monitoring weekly data files, bi-weekly payroll funding, responding to vendor and employee questions, employee communications, resolving issues and acquisition support, non-discrimination testing, annual audit and filing of Form 5500
  • Work closely with the Benefits Manager to ensure that programs and plans are in compliance with applicable law and meet company and employee needs
  • Conduct audits following launch of new projects or processes; periodic vendor payment audits, eligibility verification audits; benefit enrollment audits to ensure quality standards
  • Stay current on applicable laws and legislation to help ensure that all programs, processes and procedures are in compliance with state and federal regulations (ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, etc)
  • Special projects and additional duties as assigned
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
  • Strong knowledge and practical application of regulatory requirements affecting Employee Benefit Programs (e.g. Cafeteria Plans, Qualified Retirement Plans, Family Leaves, ADA, PPACA).
  • Excellent communication skills with particular emphasis on crafting precise and effective employee communication pieces
  • Knowledge of benefit administration systems preferred (e.g. bswift)
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Must possess a high degree of professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality
Experience, Educational Reqts and Certifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ years of progressively more challenging benefit responsibilities
